Founded in 1992, the Northeast Fencing Conference's mission is to support intercollegiate fencing in and around New England. The league organizes a round-robin schedule of dual meet competitions for the fencing programs at all member institutions. The member institutions are a mix of both NCAA varsity programs and student-organized club programs.

Gender Policy for the Northeast Fencing ConferenceA student transitioning from female to male may elect to fence on a school's men's squad, given they have not already competed on a women's squad during the current Northeast Fencing Conference season. The student may continue to fence for a women's squad if they have not begun hormone treatment. A student transitioning from male to female must complete one calendar year of hormone treatment before the start of the Northeast Fencing Conference season in order to compete on a women's squad that season. The season shall be considered to start on the date of the Northeast Fencing Conference #1 Date , and shall be considered concluded after the date of the Northeast Fencing Conference #3 date of the same academic year.
