The team standings are determined by counting the number of team victories by each team (greater number prevails). Combined team standings are determined by adding together the men's and women's team victories for each school (greater sum prevails). There are no tie breakers defined; ties are possible.
The team that earns more bout victories (usually counted out of a possible 27 bouts per meet) in a head-to-head meet is the victor. There are no tie-breakers; ties are possible (only if both teams have forfeits; see forfeits, below). The conference considers only meet results between Conference teams contested at Conference dates.
This happens only if a team does not show up for a scheduled meet. The forfeiting team forfeits every bout in the meet.
Forfeited bouts are scored 5-0 in favor of the fencer who does not forfeit.
If both teams are short fencers, and both sides of a bout are forfeited, then the bout is not scored at all. This may result in some cases where a team contest ends up having fewer than 27 contested bouts.
Rationale: no fencer should be disadvantaged for league standings because the opponent forfeits. Individual league standings are based on bouts, as well as percentage, so not counting a bout because of a forfeit is to the detriment of the fencer who does not forfeit.
Minimum bouts threshold: The minimum number of bouts a fencer must fence in to be eligible for most Conference accolades. The minimum bouts threshold a minimum is of 2/3 of the scheduled bouts in a weapon in the season. This threshold may differ by division and gender, but normally is the same across weapons within the same division and gender.
The winners of All-Star status, Fencer of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and the Sachs Award (bestowed only in the Club Division) are determined among all fencers who have met the minimum bouts threshold, with winners determined first by victory percentage (greater value prevails), then by indicators (touches scored - touches received; greater difference prevails). Further tie-breakers are undefined; in some cases, ties are possible.
While All-Star rankings are generally updated throughout the season, they are always considered temporary until the conclusion of the season, after audit by the Conference Statistician.
Fencers must meet the minimum bouts threshold to be eligible for the Elliot Lilien Award.
The conference first started keeping electronic copies of standings and statistics in the 2013-2014 season.
